Events

Our fund-raising events play a large part towards raising the money needed to pay for new projects and the day-to-day running of the School in Gorkha, Nepal.

We hold Barn Dances, Curry Nights, Ceilidhs, Suppers and evenings of Live music and entertainment throughout the year in our home town of Horndon-on-the-Hill in Essex.

Please see below for what's coming soon, and for reports and photos of previous events. If you'd like to attend one of our fund-raising events or would like to arrange one of your own, please contact Nell on nell@gorkhalearning.org for more details.

 Burns Night 2012
Our much-loved annual Burns Night celebration was held on the 21st of January 2012, and we made a grand total of £874 profit thanks to everyone that supported us! This enables us to pay a teacher for over 6 months!

We had some Burns poetry, some live music, a traditional sword dance and a wonderful Scottish story from our favourite story teller, June Wells! Not to mention our scrumptious burns meal!

If you'd like to see a video of the traditional sword dance then please click on the following link (many thanks to Uggy Brown for taking the video for us!).

 Burns Night 2010
On the 23rd of January, 2010, we held our annual Burns Night celebration.

This year we had a real piper, and as usual were joined by a wide variety of musicians, as well as the Horndon Highland Ladies.

In response to the terrrible Earth Quake in Haiti it was agreed that we would hold our raffle ito suppoert the much needed relief fund. We were pleased to say that guests responded well to the appeal and we raised £130.

Many thanks to everyone who performed, and to everyone who attended.
